THE DIRECTOR - Lisa Mulcahy

Lisa worked as an assistant director to Neil Jordan, Ron Howard, Michael Winterbottom, Peter Yates and many more before becoming a full-time director herself. She made several award-winning comedy shorts before moving to TV as a director of series' such as The Clinic & ON HOME GROUND. Situations Vacant is Lisa's first feature film. She says "I was attracted by the story – a gentle, lo-fi comedy with appealing real characters. And the challenge of making a low budget indie film with high cinematic values was really exciting"


THE WRITER - Steven Murray

The writer’s first screenplay Situations Vacant took it’s inspiration from Steven Murray’s own and similar working class Dublin communities, and his desire to have them represented in a real and positive fashion on screen by characters they can truly identify with. Steven has also written and directed a short film entitled, The Con-saw-Tina Effect and is currently working on a number of film projects.


THE PRODUCER - Annemarie Naughton

Anne was head of development / co-producer for Ferndale Films (My Left Foot, The Field, Dancing at Lughnasa) from 1999 to 2004.

She was executive producer on Maeve Binchy’s Tara Road, starring Andie Macdowell and directed by Gillies MacKinnon. She has produced numerous short films, including The Wednesdays, the award winning short film which garnered 13 international awards to date, including Audience Award at Clermont Ferrand; and Atlantic, with Liam Cunningham, winner of the Tres Court Film fest and official selection at Palm Springs short fest. Also two short films of Flann O’Brien adaptations, The Martyr’s Crown and John Duffy’s Brother.

Her commercials experience was with Brown Bag Films as producer for live action.

Documentary credits include Dracula’s Bram Stoker & The Question Of God. The Third Policeman’s Ball was a 90 minute special, celebrating the work and humour of Flann O’Brien, starring Tommy Tiernan and a host of comedians. Also starring Pat McCabe and David Kelly.

Since Situations Vacant, directed by Lisa Mulcahy, to be released before the end of the year, she has she has just finished post production on the feature film The Fading Light, directed by Ivan Kavanagh.

Diarmuid has most recently been seen in Oliver Herschbiegel’s acclaimed drama ‘FIVE MINUTES OF HEAVEN’ opposite Liam Neeson, which had a theatrical release and was also shown on BBC1 andBBC2. Previous Film and Television credits include PURE MULE; THE TUDORS Series III,THIS IS NIGHTLIVE; SAVAGE, PROSPERITY, FAIR CITY, BROKEN THINGS, A QUESTION OF GOD; IN THE FOOTSTEPS OF LORD MORTEFONTAINE and THE RETURN OF GELERT.

Diarmuid is currently appearing in the West End of London in ‘The Shawshank Redemption’ which transferred from the Gaiety Theatre in Dublin. Recent theatre includes the Rough Magic production of ‘SOLEMN MASS FOR A FULL MOON IN SUMMER’ and Andrew Flynn’s touring production of ‘JUNO AND THE PAYCOCK’.

Previous Theatre work includes A CHRISTMAS CAROL; THE MIGHTY OAK OF RIVERWOOD; JANE EYRE; OLIVER TWIST all for the Gate Theatre; MACBETH for Second Age; PINOCCHIO at the Mill Theatre and THREE CHEERS FOR MRS BUTLER at Project.

SAM CORRY - TOM

Sam trained at the Gaiety School of Acting in Dublin and The Impulse Company in London. Sam Peter Corry hails from Athlone, Co Westmeath. He completed a degree in psychology at NUI,Galway before going on to study acting at the Gaiety School in Dublin and The Impulse Company in London. He has performed on stage and screen all over the world.

On the Irish stage he has worked with esteemed companies such as Rough Magic, Island and Bedrock Theatre Companies. Notably, he played the lead role of Alec in Alan Stanford's award winning adaptation of Jennifer Johnston's novel 'How Many Miles to Babylon' (Second Age, 2005). In the UK he performed the role of Marat in ‘The Promise’ (New Wimbledon Theatre), and Pig in ‘Disco Pigs’ (Gielgud Theatre, RADA).

As regards screen credits, he was an original cast member of ‘The Clinic (RTE/Parallel Films)’, in which he played Aussie nurse Alex Walsh. He also played Irish lawyer Liam Moloney in South Africa’s most watched TV show ‘Isidingo’. At present (November 2009), he is starring in Ireland’s longest running soap ‘Fair City’ as Robert Daly, a young physiotherapist with mild Asberger's syndrome.

SHAUN DUNNE - Vinny

Shaun started acting as part of the Abbey Children’s Programme when he was twelve years old. From that he got his first part in the play “Blackwater Angel” by Jim Nolan. At 14 he joined the Independent Theatre Workshop under Gillian Oman where he now teaches! Shaun has been cast in numerous productions for TV and film- including a short called “Hoodies” that was featured in last year’s Cannes Festival as well as the Galway Film Fleadh. He worked on another short for TG4 called “The Cove”. He recently finished work on his first feature called “Situations Vacant” directed by Lisa Mulcahy and starred in “Go dTaga Do Ríocht” with An Taidhbhearc, The National Irish Language Theatre this summer as part of the Galway Arts Festival. Other theatre credits include Romeo in “Romeo and Juliet” in the Helix and Tommy in “Pterodactyls’” at the Axis, Ballymun and Riverbank, Kildare. Shaun also worked on “The Bus Project” directed by Louise Lowe as part of the Fringe Festival 2007 and is an active member of the Independent Youth Theatre since its establishment in 2003. Shaun also featured in an education campaign for Crisis Pregnancy.


MARY MURRAY -Rachel

Mary most recently won best actress at The First Irish Theatre Festival in New York for The Pride Of Parnell Street with Fishamble Theatre Company. She also won Best Female Actor at the MAMCA awards for the same play in 2008. She recently toured Romania and Bulgaria with the revival of Noah and The Tower Flower for Fishamble Theatre Company (Irish Times Theatre Award for Best New Play). Other productions include Macbecks for Long Road Productions, Howya for Visions Productions, The Alice Trilogy with The Abbey Theatre, for which she received the Irish Times "Best Supporting Actress" Award. Splendour with RAW Productions, Sleeping Beauty for Landmark Productions, Macbeth with Second Age, Operation Easter and Five Kinds Of Silence with Calypso Productions, Family Stories for B*spoke Theatre Company (Irish Times Award Nominee 2005), Sister with Visions Productions, Oh When The Hoops with Liberty Productions, Playing Politics as part of the Dublin Theatre Festival, Knocknashee with Tall Tales, The Grapes Of Wrath with Storytellers Theatre Company, Give Us A Break and Shadow Of A Gunman both for Tobarnarun and On Raftery's Hill - a co production with Druid and The Royal Court ( which performed at the Eisenhower, Washington, the Royal Court in London, Galway Town Hall and the Gate Dublin).

Mary has also worked with RTE radio on plays including Lennon's Guitar, The Sorting Office Of The Universe, Bog Boy, Appearances, Moving Day and Happy Hour. She narrated Can Lilly O’ Shea Come Out To Play for The Book On One. Other radio drama includes Dublin Tenement Life for Dublin History Museum and The Lost Patriot for Tin Pot Productions.

Mary is a multi award winning singer and the director of Visions Drama School.

Attended Ann Kavanagh's Young People's Theatre from the age of 6 to 18 years. Feis Maitiu prize winner though the years.

Successful to last 30 in Hollywood Trials with RTE in 2006

Situations Vacant is her first on-screen role.






LORNA DEMPSEY - Janice

Lauren

Lorna has been singing, dancing and acting since an early age. She has been a student of the Talented Kids Performing Arts Agency and is represented by their agency. She is also a graduate of ‘The College of Dance’ Monkstown.

Lorna’s film and television experiences include "Janice" in the feature film 'Situations Vacant'; "Belona" in the short film ‘The Fairycatcher’; " Claire " in an episode of the T.V. Drama Series ‘The Clinic’; Reality Show ‘Chance to Dance’ where she was a finalist. Lorna was a featured dancer in movies that include box office hit ‘Becoming Jane,’ ‘Northanger Abbey’ and ‘The Tudors.’

Her previous theatre experiences include 'The Naughty Elf 2008 Christmas Show', ‘Sleeping Beauty Sort Of’ at the Point Theatre, ‘Rockin Hood Prince of Babes,’ ‘Puss in Boots,’ ‘Cinderella’ ‘Rockinson Crusoe' and 'Dustin n Socky’s Christmas Show' at the Olympia Theatre where she had the lead role.

Lorna was delighted to represent Ireland as an actress, singer, dancer and model in the 2009 World Championships Of Performing Arts which was held in Los Angeles. Due to her overwhelming successes at this prestigious event, Lorna has since moved over to Los Angeles to pursue her career there.

MARIA MCDERMOTT ROE – The Mother

Maria McDermottroe taught in her native Sligo for three years before opting for a career in Theatre and Film. Brendan has worked extensively in Film including ‘KINGS’ for which he received and IFTA award for Best Supporting Actor, A LOVE DIVIDED, THE GENERAL, THE BUTCHER BOY, MOLL FLANDRES, CIRCLE OF FRIENDS etc. He has worked on many Television projects including ROCK RIVALS, PROSPERITY, ROS NA RUN and BALLYKISSANGEL.

Brendan’s Theatre credits are long and diverse, he has performed many productions at the Abbey Theatre, most recently in THE LAST DAYS OF A RELUCTANT TYRANT, Druid Theatre Company and Red Kettle.

His recent theatre includes NAMHAID don PHOBAL for Taibhearc na Gaillime and TRANLSATIONS which toured the country for Ouraboras Theatre.
